James 5:19-20
“Love between believers isn’t a sign of maturity; it’s a sign of saving faith.” - Mark Dever
As James encourages his group of believers to persevere and live out their faith in hardship, he continually addresses the group together (not individually). He says “brothers” 19 times in five chapters of writing. This along with his closing words reinforces that the Christian life is not one that believers can do on their own. God has designed the church to provide an intentional community for each other to help them persevere in faith until the end.
